The smell of candied fruit, caramel and crepes drifts over Ocean Avenue, luring us towards the carousels on the quayside. You smile like the little girl you were fifteen years ago and look at me like you did that afternoon at Luna Park. I go back to childhood, back to innocence in this sunny July in Santa Monica where we feel like children for another day and have fun without thinking about tomorrow. We sip a fruit sorbet and keep our eyes on the other happiness.
This is the beginning of our holidays. Memories, rediscovered sensations of a light childhood that follows me with you on every carousel of this pier and projects in my mind fragments of a child I had forgotten. A child who played without worries and who ate sweets. It is a film far removed from the present but which now seems so current.
I surrender to that film from the past to enchant me and carry me away gently.
